What is the CAN/ULC-S109 test standard? What is the scope of application?
CAN/ULC-S109 is a designated standard issued by Canada for testing flame retardant fabrics, upholstery materials and films.
These requirements apply to the performance in flame-exposure tests of flame-resistant fabrics of natural,synthetic,or combinations of natural and synthetic fibres,or plastic films intended for such use as tents,awnings,draperies,or decorations.

Test method for CAN/ULC-S109 test:
The CAN/ULC S109(R2019) test method includes a small flame test and a large flame test, and flame retardant fabrics and films should meet the requirements for both small and large flame tests.
(1)SAMLL-FLAME TEST
?The test specimens shall be placed in a metal.
?Each specimen shall be suspended with its lower end 20mm above the centre of the opening of a Bunsen burner having a tube of 9.5mm inside diameter.
?The flame shall be applied near the middle of the lower end of the specimen for 12s and then withdrawn.
(2)LARGE-FLAME TEST
?The bottom of the specimen shall be 100mm above the centre of the opening of a Bunsen burner having a 9.5mm inside diameter tub.
?The gas supply to be the burner shall be either natural or methane gas.
?The flame shall be applied for 120s.
